What it is

A full-body portrait shows the whole person, from the top of the head to the feet, with a little space above and below. Posture, clothing and stance become part of the story, which is why the framing is standard for fashion, outfits and people in motion. The two classic errors are cutting off the feet and leaving a huge gap above the head. A camera at chest height keeps the legs in proportion; shooting down from standing eye level makes them look shorter.

How to shoot it

Step back until the person fits head to feet, then hold the phone at chest height. A 1.5× to 2.5× zoom limits distortion.

Common mistakes

Questions

What is the best camera height for full-body photos?

Around chest or waist height, with the phone level or tilted slightly up. That keeps the body in proportion. From head height the legs look short, and from very low they look long, which can be a deliberate style but is easy to overdo.

How much space should be above the head in a full-body shot?
